Trek Preparation
Trek Ready Week 7: Make Mountain Day a Rehearsal
Use your assigned outing to test shoes, pack, food, pacing and the small decisions that matter on a trek.
Your last specific outing before retesting is a rehearsal, not a dare to find a bigger mountain. If a pack rubs after an hour or the food is hard to eat with cold fingers, this is an excellent time to find out.
Keep the assigned session
Follow the duration, terrain and pack guidance in FITR. The point is to practise the details you will use on a real trek, not add distance for a dramatic screenshot.
Run a simple field check
Wear the shoes and socks you plan to use.
Check how your pack fits and where you can reach food and layers.
Use the food-and-water plan you tried in Week 6.
Start at a pace you could keep beyond the first climb.
Practise steady, controlled steps on descents.
Know your route, forecast, daylight and turn-back point.
Conditions change. Turning back early when the route, weather or your energy calls for it is good mountain judgement.
Use what you learned
Afterward, log the actual time, route or treadmill setup, pack weight if used, and what you ate. The next day, note your legs and general energy. Write one thing you would keep and one thing you would change before the trek.
This week's action: Complete the Mountain Day already in FITR, then record one practical win and one adjustment in the Journey. The Mountain Day Field Guide is there if you need more route-planning detail.
Ready to put this into practice?
Carry it into your week.
Try this chapter's action in the FITR session already on your plan. Then mark it in your Journey when you return.
