Trek Preparation
Trek Ready Week 2: Set a Starting Line You Can Find Again
Complete the FITR baseline once and record the conditions you will need to repeat in Week 8.
A test is useful when you can repeat it fairly. Change the step height or pick an easier route in Week 8, and the new number tells you less than you think.
Do the tests written in FITR
Follow the Week 2 instructions in your track. The five-minute step-up test and 20-minute Mountain Engine walk give you a starting point for uphill work and steady movement. Base also has a goblet-squat test: eight controlled lifts at the prescribed effort. Summit clients should log their strength work in FITR, but later barbell lifts are not the same test as an earlier dumbbell lift.
Write down the setup
Step-ups: record the step height, shoes, five-minute count and how you counted each rep.
Mountain Engine: record the 20-minute distance. Use the prescribed treadmill at 5% slope with no backpack, or note the exact outdoor route and conditions.
Base goblet squat: record the weight used for eight good lifts at the prescribed difficulty.
Keep those notes with your results. In Week 8, use the same setup wherever practical. If something important changes, the Journey's progress report will leave the percentage blank rather than pretend the tests match.
A number is a starting point
Sleep, stress and an unfamiliar test can affect one day. Record an honest result, then get back to training. The Week 1, 4 and 8 weight and Mountain Day records are separate check-ins; they do not replace this controlled baseline.
This week's action: Complete the assigned tests once, log the numbers in FITR, and note the setup you will repeat. No bonus test is needed.
Ready to put this into practice?
Carry it into your week.
Try this chapter's action in the FITR session already on your plan. Then mark it in your Journey when you return.
